Mutt Damon, STAR #1991
Alicia was looking for a companion since she lost her furbaby recently – and Mutt Damon captured her heart. She was looking for an active dog and Mutt’s ready to take on the challenge and be her best buddy on walks and hanging out in the pool this summer. From shelter to STAR to home = win! Thank you, Geneta for fostering!
Mutt Damon is a handsome 2-year-old blue merle male.
Hello, my name is Mutt Damon (aka “Muttley”). I came to STAR from a shelter in Cibolo, Texas and have been getting lots of TLC in my foster home in Tomball. I love playing with my fur siblings – we play with toys, and we chase each other for hours. However, when they tell me they don’t want to play I stop and rest. I know SIT, DOWN, SPEAK AND SHAKE. I know stay but I’m not very good at staying yet. I am ready for the next chapter of my life and want my own family and home.
Now my foster Mom will tell the rest of the story!
Muttley has adjusted really well to his foster home. He is a very happy dog. He fit right into the pack without any hesitation. The first week here he got out of the yard, but he came to me immediately when I called him. He has not left the yard since without being on the leash.
He plays well with my two Aussies although he is a big (60+lbs) boy and plays very rough he takes correction well from them. He will back off when they tell him to. He has not been around any cats here so not sure how he would respond to cats. He does bark at the cows when they get too close to the fence.
He patrols the yard when outside – and checks every inch. He does love to swim and will dive into the pool, swim laps, climb out and dive back in. If there is water, he will play in it.
Breakfast is one of Muttley’s favorite times. He is quite the cheerleader while you are mixing his food and as soon as I pick up the bowls he heads to his crate where he eats his breakfast.
Muttley loves toys but he is very hard on toys. Most all our toys are now missing ears or legs. He will play fetch with the ball but only for a couple of throws, he is not bonkers over a ball.
Muttley loves sleeping on the raised dog beds or on the couch or my chair if he gets a chance. At night when I get the bedtime cookies and say let’s go to bed, he heads to the crate (where he sleeps) and goes in and waits for me to give him cookies and close the door. He does not make a peep in the crate and is quiet until I show up to let him out in the morning. During the day he is happy to follow me every step I take and follow me from room to room or in and out of the house.
There is no resource guarding with Muttley. He shares toys and sits and waits his turn to receive his treats and he waits his turn to share my lap and my love. He is a beggar when I eat.
Muttley on a leash was quite the challenge. There was no leading on a leash he pulled so hard. However, I found a leash called the GENTLE LEADER and it has turned him into a gentleman on the leash. He is a joy to walk now. He sits quietly and waits for me to put the GL on so we can go for a walk. He gets very excited to see other dogs when we walk but does okay with the GL on.
When Muttley came to us he had a skin infection and had some hair loss and was itching badly. We have addressed this and have no more itching.
Muttley gets super excited when I have company and jumps when meeting new people. We are addressing this but still needs a lot of work when company arrives. I have had the best luck by having gentle leader on to have some control. Muttley also counter surfs and is big enough to be able to reach almost every inch of my counters so I have been very good about not leaving anything out on cabinets.
I see Muttley in a home with no small children because he plays so rough. He will be good as an only dog with someone who is really active. He would also be good with a canine sibling of equal size and activity as he loves playing with other dogs.
If you are interested in learning more about Muttley and potentially adopt, the first step is to fill out an adoption application at the link below.
