Lacy Jane, STAR #2032
Lacy Jane is a BMF, 40#, spayed, approximately 7 years old, and up to date with shots and is negative for heartworms (and on preventative). She came to STAR when her owners’ health issues required her surrender. She’s been in a foster home with two other dogs and here’s what they say about this good girl:
Sweet Lacy Jane is a lower energy lady but perks up immediately if there are any “pack” activities to join. She wants to go wherever the pack, human or canine, is going. She has a light bark and will whine a little if left behind. She likes to reside on the couch or on the floor at your feet during the day; at night she has stayed on the bed or reverted to the living room couch.
She will follow you from room to room on some occasions but has gradually become more comfortable and will stay in place. She is “first in line” whenever we leash up the dogs to go anywhere. She gets in and out of both a lower profile car as well as a pickup truck. She travels well, quietly, and equally comfortable in both the front and back seats of the car/truck. At the dog park, she is anxious to be part of the pack and will “run out and back” mostly chasing her siblings, not playing fetch per se; her exercise level has increased significantly.
She is housebroken and will go to the door if she wants to go outside; she has not rung the bells (physical or digital). She is resistant to entering the crate and we have not pursued further, nor have we needed to do so: she has stayed home alone for several hours at a time.
She walks well on the leash and is NON-reactive to dogs, cars, golf carts, trucks, etc. She responds to basic commands: No. Sit. Outside? Hop up. Chow? Because of her overall passivity, we have not ventured beyond the very basics.
She was probably allowed to feed at will throughout the day; we converted her to eating in one ten-minute period twice a day, morning and evening. She could be described as a docile “beta” dog (to our two alpha males) that has not yet entered into playful interaction with our boys or played with any toys.
She has not been evaluated with children or cats but based on what we have seen as described above, we would not anticipate any issues.
She has a full coat and a generous “rear curtain” so her “wigglebutt” involves her well-hidden stubby tail and a LOT of hair, so we call her “butterbutt.”
We would characterize Lacy Jane as a good, calm, and relatively low-energy dog that will thrive in a loving, low-stress environment, either as an only dog or as a “beta” dog to “alpha” siblings. She loves to GO anywhere, anytime, and be WITH her buddies. She has not yet demonstrated any tendency to play with toys or fetch a ball, but this could evolve over time and with encouragement.
