Biscuit, STAR #2147

❤️ Biscuit is looking for her forever family!

This sweet girl is another of STAR’s Louisiana breeder dogs, and she’s slowly discovering what it means to live in a home, be part of a family – and enjoy some of the little things in life, including toys, couch cuddles and ice cubes from the kitchen.

Biscuit came to us with very little confidence around people, and many everyday sights, sounds and experiences were unfamiliar and frightening. She has made wonderful progress, and will need a patient, experienced home that understands trust will develop on her timeline.

Once Biscuit decides you’re one of her people, however, personal space may become a thing of the past. She has bonded deeply with her foster dad and is affectionate, silly and downright smothering with him – climbing all over him on the couch, showering him with kisses and following him around the house.

Trust with others has taken longer. Initially, Biscuit would not be a fan of the women in her foster home or visitors. With patience and calm interactions, those reactions have decreased significantly. She now seeks them out, accepts affection and follows them around the house. Biscuit can still bark when startled by unexpected noises or movements, so her adopter needs to understand canine body language, respect her boundaries and continue helping her build confidence without forcing interactions.

Other dogs have been wonderful teachers for Biscuit. She enjoys being outside, has begun playing with her canine foster siblings and gains confidence by following their lead. One of her biggest milestones has been joining the other Aussies for the family’s morning pile-on-the-bed ritual. The girl who once retreated immediately to her kennel now hops onto the bed with the pack and happily accepts affection.

Her kennel remains an important safe space, and she loves taking her toys inside, although stuffed toys should probably get their affairs in order first! She’s also becoming increasingly food motivated and now hangs around the kitchen with the other dogs, especially when ice cubes are involved.

Because building trust has been the priority, Biscuit still needs work on basic commands and leash skills. Her ideal home will be calm, patient and predictable will help too – and an understanding that she came from a place where she was both fearful and under socialized. We do not believe a busy household or one with young children would be appropriate for her. A friendly, confident canine companion could be a wonderful asset.

A move to a new home may cause some of Biscuit’s old fears to resurface, and her adopter should be prepared to give her time to settle in. But we’ve already seen what patience, consistency and kindness can accomplish. The girl who once hid in her kennel is now playing with dogs, destroying stuffed toys, hanging around the kitchen, climbing onto the bed and seeking affection from people she trusts.

Biscuit still has a journey ahead of her, but she has already come an awfully long way. For an experienced, patient adopter who finds joy in earning a frightened dog’s trust one little victory at a time, Biscuit will be worth every single step.

Biscuit is house trained, spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on heartworm prevention. She is currently fostered in a home Cypress and ready to find her forever home. If you’d like to learn more about her or are interested in adopting, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.
IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.

We have another very special girl to introduce from our Louisiana Baker’s Dozen Plus 1 rescue group.

Biscuit is a beautiful 2½-year-old blue merle female, weighs 45 pounds and has officially begun her journey with STAR. Like the other dogs from this heartbreaking cruelty/breeding situation, she came to us needing something she should have always had – a chance to feel safe, cared for, and loved.

As she becomes more comfortable, we’ll get to know her personality, her quirks, and all the wonderful things that make her uniquely her. We’ll share updates as she continues to make progress.

Biscuit is being fostered in the Houston area.  She is fully vetted and spayed.  We will hold off listing her as available for now until we feel she is ready for her new family.

Please join us in welcoming this beautiful blue merle girl to the STAR family. Her journey is just beginning, and we’re honored to be part of it. 🐾❤️
