Rooster, STAR # 1667

This is Rooster (yes, he has a cowlick on top of his head). ..
STAR found him at the Galveston shelter near the end of July.. He had absolutely no fur.. He was discovered to have a long time skin infection that has been treated and an ear infection..
His nails were so long he could barely walk.. If ever a dog was neglected, it was this boy..
The good news is his infections have been treated and new fur is growing in… he is neutered, vaccinated and chipped..
And ready to begin a new life..
Here is what his foster home has to say about Rooster..
Rooster would do good either by himself or with another dog…   just not a really young one full of energy.

He can be very vocal when he gets wound up and when we get home every evening he goes and gets in his crate or the raised bed and just chills until we go to bed.  He listens well and he loves attention.  He loves it when I rub his brush on him and loves bathes. I have never had a dog that likes bathes. So here is his bio:

“Hi!  My name is Rooster.  Are you looking for an older gentleman{I think I am 7 or 8 years old} who is calm to share your life with? I am a sweet older dog who likes to go for car rides, go for walks and hang out with my person. You will never go anywhere alone again.. Going outside to get something out of your car?  I will go with you to make sure you are safe.  I am very trustworthy. I don’t counter surf or chew up anything that doesn’t belong to me. I love marrow bones  and I LOVE pupachinos. I don’t play with toys much but I have started playing with them a little bit.   I don’t get on furniture or the bed, but  if you will allow me to I will sleep by your bed all night.  If I need to go potty I will let you know.  I know I don’t have much hair right now, but I have a lot more since I have gotten medicine to take care  of my skin infection.  Hair or not, I am a very sweet boy and I would love to be your companion for the rest of my days.”
If you would like to meet Rooster or adopt him, please go to our website.. read about Adoption and submit an application.. His foster home is in

Rooster is waiting to be your new best friend !!!

He has a very bad untreated skin infection.. and ear infection.. He will be neutered and taken care of by his foster home in Austin.. So far he is the sweetest boy ever.. Oh.. and somehow he is HW- !! He will be available for adoption sometime around the end of September depending on how he responds to the meds.

UPDATE:  Rooster is responding to meds and actually growing new fuzz.. He will be transferred to Houston sometime around the 24th of August..
