❤️ Sweet Sugar Magnolia Has Wiggles All Day Long!🐾

Happy, happy, happy! That’s the best way to describe Sugar Magnolia (foster home added the “Sugar” to her name because she’s that sweet!

This beautiful 4-year-old, 70-pound red tri–Australian Shepherd is one big bundle of love (and yes, she’s currently working on her figure with a diet!). She never misses an opportunity to let you know how thrilled she is to see you. Her signature greeting is an adorable sideways “curved body” wiggle with a propeller tail spinning a mile a minute. Even if you simply walk past while she’s lying down, you’ll be rewarded with a happy tail wag. And once you’re close enough, watch out for the full-face kisses! She’ll happily shower you with affection for as long as you’ll let her.

Sugar Magnolia absolutely lives for attention. She leans into you for pets, presses her head firmly into your hand for more, and soaks up every bit of love she can get. She is, without question, a world-class affection sponge.

Sugar Magnolia came to STAR with her brother, Ryker, after her family made the difficult decision to surrender them. Now she’s ready to find the forever family she deserves.

She’s house-trained, eats her meals in her crate, and has excellent house manners. She doesn’t chew on things she shouldn’t and has earned the trust of her foster family to have free run of the house with her foster brother, Dakota. At night, she sleeps wherever she chooses and is perfectly content on the floor beside the bed, although she’ll happily cuddle on the bed if she’s invited.

Her favorite toys are stuffed animals, and unlike many Aussies, she doesn’t feel the need to destroy them by hunting down every squeaker or pulling out the stuffing. Because she was recently spayed, her foster family hasn’t started playing fetch just yet, but they suspect she’ll enjoy it. Right now, her favorite game is convincing you to chase her while she proudly prances around with one of her beloved toys.

Sugar Magnolia has tried her best to convince Dakota to play with her, but he’s still warming up to having a new housemate.

She rides beautifully in the car, loading up on command and quickly settling in for the trip. She also walks nicely on leash, although she can become excited when she spots other dogs or squirrels. With a little redirection from her person, she does well.

Sugar Magnolia isn’t a big barker, but if her foster brother starts the neighborhood announcements, she’s more than willing to lend her voice. She’ll also let you know when someone knocks at the door. She’s friendly with new people once properly introduced, although if someone unexpectedly enters the house without knocking, she’ll naturally be cautious at first before deciding they’re worthy of her affection.

She hasn’t yet been around small children, so that remains an unknown. However, based on her sweet, affectionate, people-loving personality, her foster believes she has great potential to do well with respectful children.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a heart as big as her smile, Sugar Magnolia may just be your perfect match. And let’s be honest…who wouldn’t want to share life with a dog named after a Grateful Dead classic?

Please complete an application to be considered as an adopter, learn more about and meet this sweet girl. Her foster home is in Houston.
IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.

Magnolia is a beautiful 4-year-old red tri female and weighs 65 pounds. Her previous owner made the difficult decision to release her and her brother (Ryker) to STAR due to some medical and personal family issues.  So far, her foster home says she’s “Sugar” sweet with happy exuberance and desire for non-stop butt scratches and belly rubs. Rides in a car great and good on a leash. She’s being fostered in Houston and will be ready for adoption early July.
