Bear, STAR #2045

COMING SOON

Bear, STAR #2045

Bear is a handsome 3-year-old red tri male who arrived at STAR back in October 2025 and was in need of surgery to repair a torn ACL and he needed a weight-loss plan too. The surgery was routine and successful, and his recovery has gone as expected.

While he is not ready for jumping, he is ready to find his forever home. He has lost around 10 pounds (currently at 45lbs, down from 58lbs) and is much livelier than when he first arrived. He’s ready to find his furever home!

He currently has two Aussie roommates that he has gets along well with. He takes a bit of time to warm up to other dogs. For example, until he is confident another dog is not a threat to him or to his person, he will do his best to not allow them too close to his person with some growling and grumpiness. He shows a bit of an alpha personality to other dogs as a reaction to feeling he’s in “protect my person” mode.  Once he’s warmed up to the situation – he’s cool with them.

Bear is well behaved and is not destructive but needs to be watched with fluffy toys as he will eat the stuffing. Tough to destroy toys are best.

He has a loving personality and would love to spend every waking moment next to his person. He prefers for you to join him for his outside breaks.  He is crate trained, and house trained.

Bear is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and micro chipped. He has a beautiful coat and eyes that will melt your heart as he works to try to talk you out of snacks.

Bear would do well with some easy-going playmates, or he’d also be a great only dog.  He’s not been tested around cats or small children – but we think he’d be fine with both pending slow introductions. If you’d like to learn more, please start by completing an adoption application available on our website, under “Adopt”.

Introduction to the Adoption Process – South Texas Aussie Rescue

NOTE: We do not deliver dogs or transport to adopters. Home visits at your home by one of our STAR volunteers are a required part of our adoption program, and you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted and ready for adoption.

Bear is a 3-year-old red tri male at around 58lbs. He’s an owner release for not having some joint issues that need to be addressed and not getting along with other dogs. We’ll assess his health and medical needs, and he’ll be fostered in Houston.

Update:  He underwent ACL repair and did great. He’s improving every day and his weight loss plan is going great. He may be available in early December pending his continued recovery.
